Science Education at the Crossroads
2008 Conference
2-4 October 2008
Alta Lodge
Alta, Utah
Potential participants should be considering the call for papers and the proposal deadline of May 30th, 2008. All participants are also presenters.
The 2008 conference begins on Thursday evening with a reception and orientation to the conference format. The following day will open with a keynote presentation by Heidi Carlone (University of North Carolina at Greensboro) and continue with Incubator sessions in which Vexations & Ventures are presented. Our traditional poetry reading is scheduled that evening, and Incubator sessions continue the following day. A group gathering will conclude the conference on Saturday evening.
We are pleased to announce that Crossroads 2008 will be hosted by Alta Lodge in Alta, Utah. Although a mountain retreat, Alta is only 32 miles from the Salt Lake International Airport and is easily accessible by car or shuttle. In the fall, the aspen will be golden, temperatures will be mild, and the atmosphere of the lodge will be conducive to conversation. Group diversions can include visits to Octoberfest at Snowbird, relaxing on the deck, or hikes to alpine lakes.
We are also delighted to have scheduled David Lee, Utah's first Poet Laureate, for our annual poetry reading on the Friday evening of our conference. Lee's work ranges from pig farming to desert landscape, but in all of it he brings a unique voice and disarming perspective. His most recent book, So Quietly the Earth, delivers odes to the environment of southern Utah's desert landscape. He is excited to read new, unpublished work as well, specially selected for our group.
More information on our program, registration, accommodations, and travel will be posted as it becomes available. In the meantime, feel free to Contact conference organizers with questions.
